North Bergen Prepares for First Nor’easter of the Season

NORTH BERGEN, NJ — North Bergen Mayor Nick Sacco, along with other Township officials, members of the North Bergen Police Department and Department of Public Works are prepared for the first Nor’easter of the season. The northern part of New Jersey and surrounding areas are bracing for heavy snowfall, beginning Wednesday afternoon and continuing through Thursday.

“We are closely monitoring the weather forecast for today and tomorrow,” said Mayor Nick Sacco. “If the predictions hold and our area gets hit by the storm, our Department of Public Works will be ready to clear the roads and make them safe for our residents.”

North Bergen’s Department of Public Works is ready to hit the streets in advance of the storm to prep the pavement and make clearing the streets easier, with 15 pieces of heavy equipment, 4,500 tons of salt in reserve and 30 DPW employees.

Residents are advised to avoid any unnecessary driving, and to park as close to the curb as possible and away from the corners in order to facilitate street cleaning and allow the DPW and police to effectively perform their jobs.

Street sweeping as well as residential and meter parking enforcement will be suspended on Wednesday and will remain suspended until Monday, Dec. 21. In addition the township’s two outdoor COVID testing sites will be closed on Thursday. The Braddock Park site will reopen on Saturday, while the Liberty Avenue location will reopen on Friday.
