North Bergen held a Flag Day ceremony on Wednesday afternoon in James j, Braddock Park. Many veterans were in attendance, as were elected officials and the North Bergen High School Marching Band. Mayor Nicholas Sacco spoke during the ceremony.
The ceremony included the retiring of old, tattered, American flags by the North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue Department. The worn flags were placed in a large dumpster and lit on fire as Taps was played by two high school students.
The ceremony was respectful and commemorated the origins of the United States flag in 1777. On June 14th of that year the Continental Congress approved the design of the national flag.
