For the eleventh time in township history, North Bergen has sworn in a new Police Chief.

During a ceremony held in the township’s Recreation Center on Thursday afternoon, Robert Farley, Jr. took the oath of office, 27 years after he joined the department.  Farley continues a long legacy of law enforcement in his family, as both his grandfather and father reached the rank of Deputy Chief in the North Bergen Police Department.

Many members of surrounding Police Departments were in attendance to witness Thursday’s ceremony.

Chief Farley told Hud News he really never envisioned becoming the Chief of the Department.  He was happy when he made Sergeant.  Public Safety Commissioner Allen Pascual, Mayor Nicholas Sacco, and newly retired Chief of Police Peter Fasilis all expressed the same sentiment; Chief Farley earned his promotion.

The new Chief says he wants to expand upon the community policing policies currently in place in the Department.
