Mayor Fulop Receives Excellence in Leadership Award for his Exemplary Actions amid Extraordinary Crises in Recent Months

JERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop will be recognized today for his smart, progressive leadership, especially when recently faced with crisis situations, at the North Jersey Jewish Business Alliance (NJJBA) annual Legislative & Business luncheon. On August 19^th, the Business Alliance will present the Mayor with the Excellence in Leadership Award to commend him for his actions when he “courageously called out this hate crime” after the December 10th shooting in Jersey City that left 4 people dead, including Jersey City Police Detective Joseph Seals.

“Mayor Fulop’s actions have been exemplary in recent months during extraordinarily difficult times.  He showed true leadership during and after the December shooting on the Jewish kosher market, which helped to provide a sense of comfort during a time that was especially devastating for the Jewish community,” said David Rosenberg, Executive Director of the NJJBA. “More recently, the Mayor came out early on with assistance to help local businesses stay afloat.  His award for Excellence in Leadership is well deserved.”

The award also acknowledges the Mayor’s swift and preemptive efforts in the early stages of the pandemic to immediately address the community’s needs and taking necessary precautions to minimize the impact for residents and businesses throughout Jersey City.  The Mayor took proactive steps to aggressively address unprecedented financial hardships amid the health and economic crisis which have helped alleviate taxpayer burdens while creating a more resilient and sustainable economic future for Jersey City.

“I’m honored to be acknowledged for the efforts we’ve been making on a city-level, and we must continue to fight against the antisemitism and racism that sadly still exists even in our most progressive and diverse cities,” said Mayor Fulop. “There’s no doubt, we’ve been faced with exceptionally difficult times over the past year, but we have worked together with the community to get through, and will continue to build upon the progress we’ve worked so hard to achieve.”

Since 2015, the North Jersey Jewish Business Alliance (NJJBA) has served as a unified voice and advocate for businesses in North Jersey. The Alliance’s goal is to foster a team effort to provide a network of opportunities to assist business growth and expansion to ensure North Jersey is recognized as a great place to live, work, and visit for the Jewish community.
