Aniversario del asesinato de George Floyd

One year after the tragic murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, how much has the landscape of law enforcement changed?   Are we truly moving toward criminal justice reforms?  Those are questions which will be asked for many, many years to come.

This morning, the County Prosecutors Association of New Jersey, which is led by Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez as its President, issued the following statement:

“As we solemnly mark this one-year anniversary of the murder of George Floyd, we send our deepest respects and continued prayers to the family and loved ones living with this tragic loss. The past year has been a time of reckoning for our nation marked by calls for justice and for change. We have heard those calls and pledge our ongoing support and work toward criminal justice reform that delivers a stronger, fairer, more just system. While we have seen progress and change over the past year, we know that this is just the beginning and much more must be done to ensure social justice and equal treatment for everybody by law enforcement.”

Certainly, our nation needs more criminal justice changes on the part of law enforcement. But we also need cooperation from every single American citizen.  Gun violence, domestic abuse, terroristic threats by our own citizens are running rampant.  It has to change.  it must change.

We cannot stand for these daily attacks against each other.  Hate has to be eliminated from our lives.  Ethnic, racial, religious, sexual orientation attacks, whatever they might be, have no place in America.  Yet they continue to leave a stain on this country.

Here in Hudson County, a Rally For Racial & Social Justice will be taking place on June 5 at 12 noon at the corner of 79th Street and Bergenline Avenue in North Bergen.  Last year, 1,500 people attended the rally.  This year’s rally is expected to be the largest ever held in North Hudson.
