As if finding a parking spot in Hoboken weren’t difficult enough, get ready to dish out more money once you do find that precious spot.
The City Council recently approved an ordinance which will increase rates across the entire city. In residential neighborhoods, the hourly rate will double, from $1 to $2. In business areas the rates will go from $2 to $3 every hour.
In addition, the metered time limit in a majority of the city will jump from 2 to 4 hours.
In an effort to lessen the blow for regular parkers, any Hoboken residents who have on-street parking permits will get a discount. They will pay only 50% of the cost, or $1.50 per hour in business locations using the Park Mobile app. If you are a non-resident parker, you’ll get 50% off of 20 metered parking sessions per year.
The ordinance passed by a vote of 7-2, with Council President Michael Russo and Councilwoman Jen Giattino voting against the measure.
Happy Holidays!!!
