PATH Closing SW Harrison Station Entrance to Allow For Demolition & Construction

 PATH ENTERING NEW PHASE OF HARRISON STATION REDEVELOPMENT WITH REHAB WORK AND NEW CONSTRUCTION STARTING AT THE FACILITY’S SOUTHWEST STATION

 PATH is closing the southwest entrance of Harrison Station beginning Monday, April 12, to allow for demolition of the existing station structure, paving the way for a new, modern head house that will be ADA-accessible and provide an enhanced customer experience.

The new station house, with a glass-walled design similar to the last two station houses built on the site, will serve eastbound travelers on the Newark Penn Station-World Trade Center line. Among its other amenities will be a new elevator, a large public plaza with seating and additional bicycle parking capacity. Construction is scheduled to run through 2023.

During construction, signs will be in place to provide directional assistance. Riders will be required to use traffic signal pedestrian crossings at Angelo Cifelli Drive and Guyon Drive to access a corresponding station house on the opposite side of Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard.

This action is the latest phase in the Port Authority’s $256 million commitment to a new PATH Harrison facility through new construction, by upgrading existing facilities, and adding amenities to improve access and the customer experience, while meeting rising ridership demands as a result of residential development in the Harrison area.

The first phase of the Harrison project was completed in October 2018 with a sparkling new headhouse on the westbound side. A second new entrance opened in June 2019. PATH expects to solicit bids for construction of a new Northwest Station House in the first quarter of 2022.
