Pedestrian Dies Following Union City Crash on Monday

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Union City Police Department are investigating a fatal crash in which one pedestrian, a Union City Department of Public Works employee, died on Monday, June 5.  According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, the Union City Police Department received notification at approximately 7:36 a.m. that a pedestrian had been struck in the area of Palisade Avenue and 36th Street.

73-year old Fortunato Rojas-Solis of Union City had been struck and police said he had life-threatening injuries.  He was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 5:15 p.m.

According to Prosecutor Suarez, a preliminary investigation has determined that Rojas-Solis was struck by a Dodge Durango operated by a 16-year-old Union City male.  He was working in his DPW capacity when he was struck by the vehicle.
