Pedestrian Killed in Jersey City Crash

A 26-year old, Jersey City pedestrian was struck and killed early this morning in Jersey City. According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez,  Shawn Charles was standing outside of a home on Summit Avenue, near Hopkins Avenue, at 3:56  a.m. when a vehicle struck him while backing up.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit is conducting the investigation according to Suarez.

Jersey City police responded to the scene and found Charles with life-threatening injuries.  He was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center, but he died at 4:28 this morning.

The driver of the vehicle initially left the scene, but returned a few minutes following the accident.
