**THIS STORY CONTAINS NEW INFORMATION Last night at 9:42 pm, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office posted on social media that there was a fatal shooting in Jersey City. The Prosecutor’s Office has now provided additional information.
According to Prosecutor Esther Suarez, the incident took place at approximately 8:15 p.m. when the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a shooting at 117- 121 Wade Street. Responding police officers located an unresponsive male – later identified as 52-year old Gerard Brooker Sr. of Jersey City – with apparent gunshot wounds inside a unit within the building. He was pronounced dead at the scene just after 8:30 p.m.


According to a press release issued by the Prosecutor’s Office, “During the initial investigation, the victim’s son, Gerard Brooker Jr., 25, of Jersey City, was identified as a person of interest. He was arrested in Manhattan, New York, at approximately 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, May 11, 2025. Brooker Jr. is charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.”
Prosecutor Suarez credits the Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, the Jersey City Police Department, and the New York City Police Department with the investigation and arrest.
The charges against Brooker Jr. are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
