Upwards of 400 plus supporters packed the Las Palmas Restaurant on Thursday night for West New York Commissioner and Mayoral hopeful Cosmo Cirillo and his “WNY Forward” slate of Commission candidates’ fundraiser.
Saying his ticket “is West New York;” his ticket represents the community inside of “this room,” Cirillo and his running mates, Revenue and Finance Commissioner Margarita Guzman; outgoing 32nd District New Jersey Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez;
former United States Marine Corps Sergeant, Recreation Department basketball coach and Program Director, Little League baseball volunteer and Guttenberg’s Assistant Finance Director Hiram Gonzalez; and Walter Lopez, the husband of former Commissioner Michelle Lopez during the Vega Administration, who was the first elected, female Commissioner in town history, and who was an essential, healthcare worker during the COVID pandemic, who works for the town, laid out their vision for West New York’s future.
That vision includes bringing back a state-of-the-art Recreation Center, a comprehensive parking plan which includes the implementation of angled parking throughout the municipality, a revamping of environmental services with cleaner streets and quality of life initiatives, establishing a Bergenline Avenue Business Improvement District to revitalize business along the corridor, and the creation of a Division of Constituent Services with an increase in accessibility by forming walk-in and mobile office hours for the Mayor.
Should he be re-elected and become the new Mayor, Cirillo says he will retain his position as Guttenberg’s Business Administrator.
Among the notables in attendance at last night’s fundraiser spotted by Hudson TV were former West New York Mayor and past Assemblyman Sal Vega, former Commissioner Michelle Lopez, plus Guttenberg Mayor Wayne Zitt and Guttenberg Councilman John Habermann.
