Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller released the following information pertaining to police activity for the period May 8 through May 15, 2023:
May 5, 2023:
- At 10:23 AM, a resident reported a package theft from their doorstep on Third Street. The resident stated that they had received a delivery notification, but when they went to retrieve the package, it was not there. The incident is under investigation, and the police are reviewing surveillance footage in the area.
- At 3:45 PM, an officer stopped a vehicle on Route 3 for a traffic violation. During the stop, the officer discovered that the driver had a suspended license due to a prior DUI conviction. The driver was issued a summons for driving with a suspended license, and the vehicle was impounded.
May 6, 2023:
- At 8:12 AM, a business on Enterprise Avenue reported a burglary that occurred overnight. The business owner reported that the front door had been forced open, and several items were stolen, including cash and electronics. The police responded and conducted an investigation, collecting evidence and interviewing potential witnesses.
- At 2:37 PM, a resident reported a missing person. The resident stated that their teenage child had not returned home from school. The police immediately began searching for the missing person and issued an alert to neighboring law enforcement agencies. Later that day, the missing person was located unharmed in New York City.
May 7, 2023:
- At 7:56 AM, an officer stopped a vehicle on County Avenue for a traffic violation. During the stop, the officer discovered that the driver had an outstanding warrant for their arrest for a prior drug offense. The driver was arrested and taken into custody.
- At 10:14 PM, a resident reported a noise complaint from a nearby residence. The police responded and found a large party taking place. The officers spoke with the occupants and issued a warning to keep the noise down and avoid disturbing the peace.
May 8, 2023:
- At 6:21 AM, an officer on patrol observed a suspicious vehicle parked on Centre Avenue. Upon investigation, the officer discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen from another town. The vehicle was impounded, and the police are working with the other law enforcement agency to investigate the theft.
- At 11:03 AM, a resident reported a fraudulent charge on their credit card. The resident stated that they had noticed a charge for a large amount of money on their statement that they did not authorize. The police provided assistance and advised the resident to contact their bank to report the fraud and initiate an investigation.
May 9-14, 2023: No noteworthy incidents to report.
May 15, 2023:
- At 2:10 PM, a resident reported a dog bite that occurred on Front Street. The resident stated that they had been walking their dog when another dog ran out of a nearby yard and attacked their dog and them. The police responded and provided medical assistance to the victim, who sustained minor injuries. Animal Control was notified and took custody of the dog that had attacked.
- At 9:47 PM, an officer stopped a vehicle on Paterson Plank Road for a traffic violation. During the stop, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver’s breath and conducted a field sobriety test, which the driver failed. The driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. The vehicle was impounded, and the driver was released to a sober family member.
