With the 220th session of the New Jersey Legislature now underway, committee assignments have been given out. On the Senate side, new President Nicholas Scutari, who had been the Chairman of the powerful Judiciary Committee, has appointed Union City’s Brian Stack as his successor.
The Senate Judiciary Committee, comprised of 8 Democrats and 4 Republicans, has had an overhaul this session. In addition to Scutari’s departure, Loretta Weinberg, longtime Democratic Senator from Teaneck, has retired, as has committee member, Republican Kip Bateman. Democrat Joe Lagana of Paramus rejoins the Committee, which has added former Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick, now a Senator, to its ranks.
Senator Stack spoke with reporter Jeff Henig about his new role as Judiciary Committee Chairman; what the Committee actually does and how the Committee can advance transparency in police matters.
