Senior Citizen Attacked in Car in Bayonne, Assailant Arrested

Bayonne Police Captain Eric Amato reports that Luis A. Villa, a 33-year old resident of Bergen Court in Bayonne, was taken into custody at 9:30 on Tuesday morning from his residence after being identified as the actor of an aggravated assault (road rage) reported on October 5 at 10:48 am.

On October 5, Amato says the 81-year old male victim of Jersey City reports that while he was seated in his vehicle and stopped at a traffic light in the area of Hook Road and Rt. 440, he became involved in a verbal altercation with the operator of a vehicle stopped behind him.  The altercation turned physical after the driver of the second car retrieved a fiberglass object from the trunk of his vehicle and proceeded to strike the victim about the head and face with it through the victim’s opened driver’s door window.

The actor then fled the area.  The victim suffered injuries to his left eye and face and was treated at an area hospital.  An intense and thorough investigation was initiated by the Bayonne Police Detective Bureau which led to Villa being identified as the actor.  A warrant for his arrest was issued and executed at his residence where detectives also recovered the vehicle he was utilizing during the road rage incident.

Villa has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.
