Sierra Club Endorses Congressman Payne For Re-Election

Prominent Environmental Advocacy Organization Lends Support to Incumbent Congressman, Citing Long Commitment to Climate Justice

NEWARK, NJ – Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr., (D-Newark) is announcing the endorsement of the Sierra Club, one of the nation’s most prominent environmental organizations. The Sierra Club, which works to advocate for environmental protection and conservation legislation, cited Congressman Payne’s commitment to transitioning to clean energy, and prioritization of public health in his district.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Sierra Club which is doing such important work combating climate change and protecting our environment,” said Congressman Payne. “Climate change and air pollution have a disproportionate impact on the most vulnerable members of our community, and therefore the fight for environmental justice is integral to the fight for racial and economic justice. I am committed to championing these issues in Washington, and continuing to work to protect public health and the environment in New Jersey’s 10th Congressional district.”

Congressman Payne has long been working to combat pollution in his home city of Newark and further environmental justice measures in Congress. He successfully included an amendment to the INVEST in America Act that prioritizes lead removal funds for low-income cities, wrote and passed the TEST for Lead Act mandating that schools test their drinking water for lead, and co-wrote the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill that is expected to include one billion dollars that will go towards environmental clean-up, improvement of water infrastructure and clean energy in New Jersey.
