As noted in a letter to residents earlier this month, the Township is required by the county and state to conduct a tax revaluation on all properties in North Bergen. Representatives from Appraisal Systems, Inc., the company conducting the inspections, will begin visiting homes on Monday, May 10th, 2021. Residents who are not home will be given the option of scheduling an in-person inspection or an inspection by video conference.
The goal of the revaluation is to ensure that everyone is assessed accurately. The revaluation does NOT change the total amount of taxes raised by the Township. Instead, it ensures that the total amount is fairly distributed among all properties based on their true market value, meaning some homes will not have their taxes impacted at all, while others may have their taxes increase or decrease.
Webinars explaining the revaluation process will be conducted on various dates beginning Thursday, May 6, 2021. Residents will have the opportunity to watch a presentation about the process and ask questions live.
