Staten Island Man Charged With DWI After Severely Injuring Pedal Cyclist in Bayonne

45-year old Rainier J. Solis of Suffolk Avenue in Staten Island, New York has been arrested and charged by Bayonne Police for severely inuring a pedal cyclist on Saturday night near Route 440 South and East 22nd Street.

According to Captain Eric Amato, Solis was taken into custody at 9:47 pm after Bayonne Police Officers responded to the area on a report of a pedal cyclist who had been struck by a motor vehicle. The on-scene investigation led to the arrest of Solis for D.W.I.  The 37-year-old pedal cyclist was severely injured in the crash and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

In addition to driving while intoxicated, Solis was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child since it was determined that he was operating his vehicle while intoxicated with his two juvenile children as passengers.  

Solis also faces a third charge of assault by auto according to Captain Amato.
