Jersey City, NJ – A tragic incident occurred on February 3, 2024, in Jersey City, resulting in the death of Stephanie Weymouth, 31, of Bayonne. The driver, Amanda Rivera, 28, of Staten Island, has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal crash.

The collision took place on Route 185 near the Linden Avenue East intersection when Rivera’s 2019 Nissan sedan collided with the rear of a parked and unoccupied tractor-trailer. Three women were in the vehicle at the time. Rivera and the front seat passenger, a 27-year-old female from Old Bridge, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. However, Weymouth was pronounced dead shortly after 1 a.m.

An investigation revealed that Rivera was driving while intoxicated at the time of the collision. As a result, she has been charged with Aggravated Manslaughter, Reckless Manslaughter, and Assault by Auto.

Rivera was arrested by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department. She was taken into custody at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and is currently held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending her first court appearance.

It is important to note that all charges against Rivera are considered accusations, and she is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
