Bayonne Firefighters Respond to Apartment Fire on Kennedy Boulevard

Bayonne firefighters responded to a one-alarm fire at an apartment building located at 401 Kennedy Boulevard on Sunday night, which they quickly extinguished with no reported injuries.

According to Deputy Chief Bill Bartos, the fire department received a report of fire at 11:07 pm on Sunday night. Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found that the fire had started in the bathroom of a first-floor apartment in the two-story, three-unit building.

Firefighters used two handlines to contain and extinguish the blaze, which was under control by 11:27 pm. All occupants were safely evacuated, and only one tenant was treated for minor smoke inhalation at the scene by McCabe EMS. There were no other reported injuries.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway, but the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature.

Deputy Chief Bartos commended the firefighters for their quick and effective response to the incident. He said, “Our firefighters arrived quickly and immediately attacked the seat of the fire. Their rapid and decisive action inhibited any further fire spread beyond the room of origin.”

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of having working smoke detectors in homes and apartments. The Bayonne Fire Department urges all residents to make sure their smoke detectors are working and to have an escape plan in case of a fire.
