Northern Hudson County has been celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a parade since 1976. On a beautiful fall Sunday, thousands of people lined Bergenline Avenue from North Bergen to Union City, as 21 countries were represented in this year’s Hispanic Statewide Parade of New Jersey.
According to Parade President William Hernandez, police estimated that 200,000 people would be in attendance at this year’s event.
Colorful flags and national attire dominated the avenue, as floats and marching bands, along with civic organizations and law enforcement personnel made their way south from 79th Street in North Bergen, through Guttenberg and West New York, ending at a reviewing stand at 43rd Street in Union City.
It was a day the celebrate Hudson County’s rich diversity. It was a day to appreciate the contributions made by Latin cultures throughout the county. It was a day to smile and say, Hudson County is truly a melting pot.
Ridiculous parade, only for the Spanish, I resent this. What about the Italians and the Irish and so on. Where is their parade??
