Bayonne Police Captain Eric Amato reports that three, juvenile males have been arrested on burglary charges. Two of the juveniles are 15 years of age and live in Queens, New York, while the third is a 16-year old Jersey City resident.
According to Amato, the arrests took place on Friday night, February 24 at 4:49 in the afternoon in the area of West 29th Street.
Police officers responded to a residence located on West 28th Street on a report of a burglary in progress at a vacant apartment. Upon arrival, the officers observed a male climbing the fire escape of the building toward the roof. The suspect disregarded the officers’ commands to stop fleeing. In addition, the officers also observed, through the window, another male inside the apartment. As officers pursued the first juvenile, they observed him jumping to neighboring rooftops, but he was ultimately intercepted and apprehended on the fire escape.
The juvenile inside the apartment, plus a third juvenile, then emerged from the apartment onto the fire escape where they were also taken into custody.
According to Captain Amato, the on-scene investigation led to the discovery of a broken rear window to the apartment, which was caused by the juveniles. A further search led to the recovery of two kitchen knives, believed to be used to commit the burglary.
All three of the juveniles have been charged with burglary and obstructing a government function. One of the underage suspects was also charged with resisting arrest and possession of burglary tools.
