The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for all 21 counties in New Jersey, including Hudson, Bergen and Essex, as well as New York City, as of 7:30 a.m. The watch is in effect until 4 o’clock this afternoon, Tuesday, August 4, for 18 of New Jersey’s counties.
Hail the size of a small marble is possible as Tropical Storm / Hurricane Isaias moves into the New York metropolitan region. Winds topping 70 MPH are likely. Severe flooding is also expected, as total rainfall could reach 6 inches.
The tornado watch expires at 12 noon for Salem, Cumberland and Cape May counties.
A tornado watch means weather conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms that are capable of producing tornadoes.
Isaias was downgraded overnight to a tropical storm when it hit southern New Jersey.
