Two Union City men have been arrested and charged in connection with a November 2024 homicide in Union City according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.
Members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit have charged 26-year old Gerson Vasquez and 34-year old Antonio Santiago-Jiminez in connection with the death of a 56-year old male in Union City on November 14, 2024.
Both men are charged with murder and endangering an injured victim. Suarez says Vasquez was arrested by members of the Homicide Unit in Perth Amboy on March 6, 2025. Santiago-Jiminez was arrested by members of the Union City Police Department on Bergenline Avenue in Union City on March 8, 2025. Both are being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
A press release from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office states, “At approximately 11 a.m., on November 14, 2024, the Union City Police Department was notified of an unresponsive male behind a building on 23rd Street. Responding officers located a lifeless male – later identified as Reynaldo Gonzalez, 56 – and he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 11:30 a.m. On Wednesday, November 26, 2024, the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be Complications of Blunt Force Injuries and the Manner to be Homicide. Following the Medical Examiner’s report, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit formally assumed control of the investigation.”
