Two North Bergen High School Students Honored For Their Community Service Supporting Farms & Gardens

Two North Bergen High School students have been honored for their work supporting local farms and gardens.  According to Dana Hojnowski of the school’s Science Department, Alessandro Funez and Javier Ramdhani recently completed 10 hours of community service supporting urban farms and gardens through the Junior Master Composter Program and the Youth Urban Farm Club.

Hojnowski stated, “These programs are provided by Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Hudson County and the 4-H Youth Development Program. Alessandro and Javier have set up a guest speaker to come speak with our NBHS Environmental Club from the Hudson County Improvement Authority, and they will revamp our failed attempt at a compost bin in the school’s greenhouse.”

Hojnowski added, “They have further plans of extending the compost program to faculty/staff and then hopefully the cafeteria and cooking staff.”
