It’s a one of a kind culinary arts opportunity for high school students in New Jersey. Chartwells pilot food truck program at Union City High School. Students learn all aspects of running a food service business.
For now, the food truck will operate once a week, on Fridays through mid-afternoon at the corner of Summit Avenue and 24th Street. Nine culinary arts students have internships which will allow them to work directly with a food service provider, learning how to run a business, prepare the food, create a marketing plan, among other things.

Approximately twenty students in all are participating in the program. The menu will be consistent for now, allowing the students to become comfortable. That will ultimately change, as different menu items will be added.

The food truck was purchased and renovated with the assistance of Chartwells, the Union City Board of Education’s food service provider. The truck is a pilot for Chartwells, a first of its kind and unique to school systems in New Jersey.
So stop by the southeast corner of Union City High School and sample some of the quality food being prepared by the culinary arts students. Your taste buds will enjoy it!!!
