800 incoming 9th graders attended freshman orientation this week at Union City High School.  The two day event was intended to help familiarize Union Hill and Emerson Middle School graduates with their new school for the next four years.

The orientation began with Principal Ryan Lewis speaking to the students about the differences between middle school and high school.  He told the students they will be treated as adults, and they need to act as adults.  Time management rests on the shoulders of the incoming freshmen.

One of the most important parts of the orientation was the tour of the Union City High School building.  With more than 3,200 students in total, Union City High School has the second largest, student population of any high school in the State of New Jersey.

So, familiarization of the building, which is much larger than either of the two middle schools, is important for the new 9th graders to help keep their stress levels under control, especially during the first few weeks of classes.

Following the tour, all of the freshmen had their student ID photos taken.

The two day event went smoothly, as Union Hill Middle School graduates received orientation on Tuesday, followed by Emerson Middle School graduates on Wednesday.

Teachers report on September 2nd.  The learning begins on September 5th.
