Union City Celebrates 202 Years of Salvadoran Independence

Hispanic Heritage Month activities are taking place in Hudson County.

 

Union City continued a tradition on Thursday afternoon, raising the flag of El Salvador, celebrating the Central American country’s 202nd anniversary of independence.  To members of the Salvadoran community received city proclamations from Mayor Brian Stack and the Board of Commissioners.

              Real estate broker Marlin Ortez and Salvadoran of the Year Andres Flores were honored with the proclamations, which were presented by Commissioners Celin Valdivia and Wendy Grullon.

              Also attending the ceremony was Consul General for El Salvador Ariel Valle, who praised the Mayor and Commissioners for continuing to hold these special events, honoring the cultures and traditions of the many different Hispanic communities which comprise Union City.

Keeping traditions alive helps to honor the cultures of the city, truly a melting pot in Hudson County.
