Two street corners in Union City have been named in honor of two music legends from the Dominican Republic.
The first dedication was held on Thursday at 32nd Street and New York Avenue, as Fefita la Grande was honored by Mayor Brian Stack and the Board of Commissioners before a large crowd of enthusiastic Dominicans.

Fefita la Grande was presented with a city proclamation prior to the unveiling of the street sign designating the street corner as Fefita la Grande Way.
The second dedication took place on Friday at the corner of 48th Street and Hudson Avenue, as Dominican artist Jose Alberto, known as “El Canario,” was honored with a proclamation from the city, as well as the unveiling of a street sign.
Alberto grew up in Union City and has a huge following for his music among the Dominican community.
Both honorees were overwhelmed by the Administration’s decisions to stamp their legacies for future generations.
