With the FIFA World Cup underway, Union City held a youth soccer festival on Saturday.

The event took place at the Jose Marti STEM Academy field on Summit Avenue, and featured soccer games between Union City and the Cedar Stars Academy.  There were also activities, including ping pong, plus free food and drinks for those who attended.

In addition to Union City Mayor Brian Stack, the city’s other four Commissioners were in attendance, as was 33rd District Assemblyman Larry Wainstein and Hudson County Commissioner Fanny Cedeno.

The festival also honored two individuals who have played a major role in Union City’s soccer program; Waleed Miqbel, the Director of Union City Youth Sports and William Shapiro, the Director of the Union City Soccer Club.

It was an afternoon to celebrate the city’s soccer program and the kids who take part in it.
