UNION CITY IMPLEMENTS RESTRICTIONS AND CLOSURES  AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE AMID CONCERNS OF THE CORONAVIRUS

Update…Union City Public Library is closed effective immediately.  All business establishments must close by 10 PM effective immediately.  The exceptions are pharmacies, gas stations, drive-thru restaurants and restaurant delivery only. Orders must be taken by phone or online and cannot be open to the public

(Union City, New Jersey) – Amid concerns regarding COVID 19 (the “Coronavirus”), the City of Union City along with the Union City Board of Education announces the following closures and restrictions:

  • Union City Board of Education  has closed all schools from March 16th through March 20th
  • All private daycares in Union City are closed from March 16th through March 20th
  • Union City Municipal Court and Landlord/Tenant Court are closed from March 16th through March 27th
  • All Union City Recreation and Senior Citizens activities are cancelled through March 20th
  • All liquor license establishments are required to close by 10:00 PM until further notice (Executive Order 2020-1 signed by Mayor Brian P. Stack on March 13, 2020)
  • The City of Union City will institute a curfew of 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM until further notice (Executive Order 2020-2 signed by Mayor Brian P. Stack on March 15, 2020).  Residents are required to stay in their homes at this time barring emergencies and exempting those reporting for work.
  • Union City Parking Authority is extending expired or set to expire parking permits for 30 days.
  • Visiting City Hall should be limited to urgent matters only.  If business can be conducted over the phone or through the website, we encourage residents to do so.

“As a precaution, we are attempting to take all measures to ensure that the public’s health, safety and welfare are the first priority,” said Mayor Brian P. Stack.  “At this time, we have no confirmed cases of the Coronavirus in Union City, but we are working around the clock to institute safety measures such as closing schools and restricting exposure.  The situation is changing daily and restrictions and closures are subject to change, but if anyone needs assistance, please contact me or my office.”
