Union City held a Ceremony of Remembrance for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at City Hall on Friday.  King’s legacy of equality for all was felt throughout the event.

Sara Gilmore Academy 6th grader Miguel Pulido read an excerpt from Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech, while Union City Special Police Officer Victor Smith was honored as the African American of the Year.

With this being the Centennial celebration of the founding of Union City, a special guest was presented with the Key to the City.  Two time, Super Bowl champion Justin Tuck, a former member of the New York Giants, was on hand to receive the honor.  Tuck, who also played for the Oakland Raiders, and his wife, founded Tuck’s Rush For Literacy, an organization committed to improving children’s education in New York, New Jersey and Alabama, Tuck’s home state.

Mayor Stack and the Board of Commissioners spoke of keeping Dr. King’s legacy alive, and striving every day for equality among all Americans.
