Video: Crying children cling to man as ICE agents take him outside Harrison post office

HARRISON — Young children cried and clung to a man as masked federal agents pinned him against a tree and took him away outside the Harrison Avenue post office, a bystander video shows.

Updated Oct. 9, 2026, with statement from Harrison mayor and council and ICE’s account.

UPDATE: Harrison mayor and council respond

The Mayor and Council of the Town of Harrison said in a statement posted on the town website Oct. 8 that they “wish to express our deep concern for the children and family affected.”

“While we are still seeking a full understanding of the circumstances surrounding this incident, it is heartbreaking to hear of children witnessing such a frightening and potentially traumatic experience in their own community,” the statement said.

“Our immediate concern is the emotional well-being of the children involved. We respectfully have asked the Harrison Public School District to identify and provide appropriate counseling, emotional support, and other necessary services to any affected students,” the mayor and council said.

“Every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and cared for, particularly during moments of uncertainty and distress,” the statement said.

The statement did not say whether the town or its police department had any advance notice of the arrest, and it did not identify the man.

ICE’s account

ICE identified the man as Jhon Maykel Correa-Sangucho, a Honduran national who ICE says is in the U.S. illegally, according to an ICE statement reported by NJ.com and News 12 New Jersey.

ICE officers pulled him over for what the agency called multiple traffic violations, NJ.com reported, citing the statement. A woman passenger and at least two children were in the car with him, according to NJ.com.

ICE said “the female passenger and a bystander attempted to obstruct the arrest,” NJ.com reported. Neither was named. ICE officials said both are under investigation for assaulting, resisting and impeding federal officers.

Homeland Security says Correa-Sangucho declined repeated instructions to get out of the car before he was handcuffed, News 12 New Jersey reported. ICE says he remains in custody pending removal proceedings, according to NJ.com.

Hudson TV has not independently confirmed ICE’s account. The bystander video does not show the traffic stop.

In the 92-second clip, a boy in a navy shirt holds onto the man while agents, at least one in a vest marked “POLICE ICE,” hold him against a tree on the sidewalk. A woman carrying a toddler wrapped in a rainbow blanket pushes in beside them. After the agents put the man in a black SUV, a young girl sits on the sidewalk by an iron fence, screaming and crying.

The arrest happened Wednesday morning, Oct. 7, in front of the post office on Harrison Avenue, NJ.com reported. The Mirror US also placed it on Harrison Avenue near the post office and said a bystander recorded the video and posted it on Instagram on Oct. 7. The original post, from the account @ms._sb1017, had more than 77,900 likes by Thursday afternoon, according to The Mirror.

What the video shows

Hudson TV reviewed the video frame by frame:

  • 0:00–0:11: Several agents hold a man against a tree next to a black SUV parked along a brick sidewalk with parking meters. Teenagers in navy jackets and khaki pants stand around them.
  • 0:18–0:21: A boy in a navy shirt grabs hold of the man as agents in tactical vests, one marked “POLICE ICE,” keep him pinned to the tree. Right beside them, a woman holds a toddler in a pink top and a rainbow blanket.
  • 0:21–0:31: The camera is pulled into the crowd. The boy and the woman with the toddler are pressed against the agents while people around them grab at the children.
  • 0:36–0:47: Near the SUV, agents push people back as bystanders shout at them.
  • 0:48–0:54: A young girl sits on the sidewalk next to an iron fence, screaming and crying. A small boy stands near her.
  • 0:57–1:10: Agents walk back to the SUVs and climb in. Shoes lie on the curb where the struggle happened.

Hudson TV did not see the man holding a child in the video. The toddler is carried by the woman throughout.

NJ.com reported that a third agent arrives in another vehicle and is seen “grabbing one of the teenage boys and throwing him to the ground,” and that a fourth agent tells people to “step back.” The Mirror reported that a young boy was shoved onto the street and that one child’s Crocs were knocked off. Bystanders can be heard yelling, “They’re just kids!” and “She’s holding a baby!” according to The Mirror.

After the man is put in the SUV, his relatives stay behind on the sidewalk with the children, “screaming and crying,” NJ.com reported.

What is not known

Hudson TV has not been able to independently confirm ICE’s account of the traffic stop or of what happened before the video begins. ICE has not released any criminal charges against Correa-Sangucho, and the passenger and bystander under investigation have not been named. NJ.com described the man and the children as family “according to the footage.”

ICE and the Department of Homeland Security have commented through statements to other outlets, including NJ.com and News 12 New Jersey. As of Friday night, Hudson TV had not found the statement on ICE’s or DHS’s websites. As of Thursday night, Hudson TV found no public statement from the Harrison Police Department on its website or official social media accounts. NJ.com reported that Harrison’s city council and mayor’s office did not return its request for comment Thursday. The Mirror said it asked ICE for details.

Hudson TV is seeking comment from ICE and the Harrison Police Department and will update this story with any response.

Hudson TV asks: Should ICE publicly explain arrests like this one, or were the agents simply doing their job? Share your take in the comments.
