Weehawken Board of Education Hosts Summer Dog Studies Program

A 5-week, Introduction to Dog Studies Program, is taking plsce at Weehawken High School.  The free course aims not only to teach students how to properly train a dog, but the abundance of professions that are available involving dogs which can earn you a nice income.

The idea for the course came from Weehawken High School teacher Mark Perry.  It has the complete support of the Weehawken Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools Eric Crespo, Assistant Superintendent Fran Amato and High School Principal Rob Ferullo.  The class meets Tuesday through Thursday for two hours each day.

              The class is open to students in grades 5 through 12.  It is designed not only to teach participants how to train their dogs, but also to enlighten them on the many varied professions involving dogs which can provide them with a nice income.  It’s more than just being a dog walker or a dog groomer.  You can become a service dog trainer or go into law enforcement and become the trainer and partner of a K-9 narcotics dog.  And there’s so many other careers involving man’s best friend.

              The course features many outside companies which come to the classroom to speak to the students about their options, including Canine Companions of Long Island and Hudson Barks from Jersey City.

So, whatever their interest is involving dogs, this course summer course for Weehawken youngsters certainly won’t be having them barking up the wrong tree!!
