The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office has initiated an investigation into a police-involved shooting incident that took place in Bayonne this morning. The incident has raised concerns and prompted a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the use of force.

In response to the shooting, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office has taken charge of the investigation, aiming to shed light on the events leading up to the incident and determine whether the use of lethal force was justified. As part of their inquiry, they will scrutinize the actions of the involved law enforcement personnel, gather evidence, and interview witnesses.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, just after 6:45 a.m., the Bayonne Police Department received a report of a theft from a gas station on 53rd Street near Avenue E. Responding officers located a person of interest at a parking lot in the area of Broadway and 54th Street. After being approached by law enforcement, the male fled the scene in his vehicle, striking two police vehicles and an unoccupied civilian vehicle. One Officer discharged his weapon. The male was located a short time later in the area of Linden Avenue and Scott Street in Jersey City with apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he is currently in custody with injuries that are not considered life threatening at this time.
