Clutch hitting late in the game led the Weehawken Indians to the Hudson County Softball Championship on Sunday at New Jersey City University. The second seeded Indians defeated the top seed, the Bayonne Lady Bees 6-2, a year after losing to Bayonne 1-0 in the title game.
Weehawken led the game 2-1 in the sixth inning, when they got a huge, clutch, 3-run double from sophomore third baseman, Eva Shevlin to increase their lead to 5-1. The margin held, as junior starting pitcher Savanna McHale went the distance to earn the win.
Weehawken now heads to the NJSIAA tournament. They have a first round bye, so they do not know their next opponent or the date of the next game.
