The Township of Weehawken celebrated Hanukkah on Thursday evening by lighting the Menorah at Town Hall.  The celebration was held with heavy hearts following last Saturday’s fatal shootings at Bondi Beach in Australia on the first night of the Festival of Lights.

Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner and Rabbi Moshe Schapiro of Congregation Chabad lit the Menorah on the fifth night of the holiday.

The Rabbi spoke of “looking for the light, not for the darkness,” as the world continues to deal with tragedy far too often.

Hoboken Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher attended the ceremony, as did approximately 25 residents, who were treated to jelly and custard doughnuts following the lighting of the Menorah.
