One Weehawken police officer was promoted to sergeant and three others took their oaths during a ceremony held on Wednesday night in the Weehawken High School auditorium.
Mayor Richard Turner praised the Department, saying crime in the township was lower than it was back in 1971, long before the waterfront had been developed. Deputy Police Chief James White thanked the Mayor, the Township Council and Public Safety Director Jeff Welz for their commitment to providing the Department the tools necessary to effectively protect the citizens of Weehawken. Deputy Chief White spoke of the recent accreditation received by the Police Department, something less than 20% of the 507 law enforcement agencies in New Jersey can claim. Weehawken joins six municipalities in Hudson County which are accredited.

Max Guevarez, who joined the police force in 2005 after spending 12 years in the United States Marine Corps, was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He has been a member of patrol since coming aboard.
Congratulations go out to all four members of the force honored on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, the township held an awards ceremony on Friday night for officers who went above and beyond and participated in acts of valor and achievement over the past year.
