Weehawken Remembers & Honors Our Veterans on Memorial Day

Nearly 80 years old, Weehawken’s Memorial Day Parade and ceremonies paid tribute to those who have served and paid the ultimate sacrifice in our military to protect our democracy.

The parade concluded at Soldiers and Sailors Monument along Boulevard East, as a large crowd gathered for the remembrance ceremony.  The local VFW and American Legion Post placed wreaths and American flags at the base of the monuments honoring those who have lost their lives in past wars.

A bell was rung for each Weehawken soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice.  Taps was played and our anthem was sung with pride.

The rain held off allowing the ceremony to conclude under some sunshine.  We all should take a moment today to thank those who served, many giving their lives, so we can live in a country under democratic rule with al of the freedoms we enjoy.
