After becoming the only Weehawken High School team to win a league title, a Hudson County championship and a state sectional championship all in the same year, the Indians softball season came to a close on Tuesday afternoon with a 3-1 loss to the Cedar Grove Panthers in the semi-finals of the NJSIAA Group 1.
After catcher Envey Duran put Weehawken on top in the bottom of the first 1-0 with an RBI, the 6th ranked team in New Jersey scored single runs in the second, third and fifth innings to capture some revenge against Weehawken, which had defeated the Panthers in last year’s sectional championship game.
Weehawken will only lose two players to graduation, so you can expect the team to be back at it next season fighting for more championship success.
