Weehawken Unable To Win Back-To-Back Sectional Softball Titles

It was a disappointing Saturday afternoon for the Weehawken High School softball team.

Despite having a 3-0 6th inning lead, Weehawken High School was unable to hold on, and lost 5-3 in 8 innings to David Brearley High School of Kenilworth, denying the Indians a second straight, NJSIAA Section 2, Group 1 softball championship.

Defensive miscues allowed the Bears to tie the game, and eventually go ahead in the 8th inning.  While the outcome of the game was not what Weehawken had scripted, they can hold their heads high.  The Indians won a second consecutive Hudson County Championship and played for a state sectional title.

They will graduate three seniors, but the rest of this strong team will be back next season looking to bounce back and recapture that sectional championship.

Congratulations to Coach Roder, her assistants and all of the girls who finished the year with a 28-2 record.
