Weehawken Wins Again, Advances To State Softball Championship Game

Clutch hitting and a masterful pitching performance from junior Savanna McHale has led number 1 seed Weehawken into Saturday’s, NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 championship game.

On Wednesday afternoon the Indians defeated Roselle Park, the 12th seeded team, by a score of 7-0.  Senior right fielder Ebony Manzanillo got the clutch hit in the fourth inning, a two-run triple to give Weehawken a 3-0 lead.

That was more than enough for McHale.  She simply dominated on the rubber…a one hit, 17 strikeout, complete game performance.  Roselle Park’s batter just could not figure her out, consistently swinging under her pitches.

Her catcher, Envey Duran, who took numerous foul balls off of her body in the last game against Belvidere, and was in obvious pain throughout, guided McHale to Wednesday’s victory.  She also homered for the second consecutive game.

It was a complete performance for the entire Weehawken squad, which now hosts third seed Whippany Park at 1 pm on Saturday for the State Sectional Championship.
