West Hudson St. Patrick’s Day Parade Returns Amid Some Start Time Controversy

The United Irish Associations of West Hudson has announced that the 2022 St. Patrick’s Day Parade of West Hudson will take place on Sunday, March 13.  Therein lies the controversy.  That’s the same date as the Red Bulls will host their season opening soccer match.  Nobody expected the return of the parade following COVID to be impacted in the way it has, but it has.

Traffic and pedestrian congestion is bound to happen in Harrison, East Newark and Kearny.  So, the Town of Harrison, where the parade steps off, tried to resolve the issue. The following Facebook post sums up the issue and the resolution:

The Board of Trustees of the United Irish Associations of West Hudson, in response to a request from our friends at the Harrison Police, have agreed to reschedule the 2022 Saint Patrick’s Day Parade to start one hour earlier than the traditional step off time.
The New York Red Bulls inexplicably scheduled their season opening game to occur at 2:00 PM on the Sunday immediately preceding Saint Patrick’s Day – the day and time that has been the step off of the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade for more than 40 years. Requests from the Town of Harrison as well as the Harrison Police to delay the start of that match have not been successful.
In order to avoid as much traffic overlap as possible, provide adequate police presence, and allow the parade to proceed, the United Irish has agreed to reschedule our entire day of events as well as change the streets on which the marchers will gather before the parade.
The Mass for Peace in Ireland will be held at Holy Cross Church at 11:00 AM. Parade muster will begin at 12:00 noon. The 2022 Parade will step off at 1:00 PM.
We apologize for any difficulties this late scheduling change may cause for our marching units, bands, and everyone in Harrison, East Newark, and Kearny who will have to adjust their schedules to participate in and watch the parade. The United Irish Associations has done everything in our power to make this long delayed return to the streets of West Hudson run as smoothly as possible.
