West New York Swears In 14 New Police Officers

There are 14 new members of the West New York police force following Wednesday night’s swearing-in ceremony held at Memorial High School.  The hirings fulfill a commitment made by Mayor Albio Sires during the campaign last year.

The new hires brings the total number of officers in the Department to 135.  Each of the hires brings a different level of experience to the job.  The new recruits attended the Passaic Police Academy, and they will shadow more seasoned officers assigned to community outreach and work on patrol.  The Special Class threes are going to work in the schools, protecting the city’s children.

Mayor Sires was the first West New York Mayor two decades ago to bring women onto the force, and on Wednesday night, several more female officers joined the Department.

We wish all of the new officers well and pray for their safety on the job.
