WEST NEW YORK, NJ – Mayor Albio Sires and the Board of Commissioners are set to host a grand opening ceremony on Friday, July 21, 2023, to mark the completion of Miller Park’s construction. The ceremony, scheduled for 1:00 p.m., will take place at the newly erected park situated on Jackson Street, across from Miller Stadium.
This special event will feature speeches by Mayor Albio Sires, members of the Board of Commissioners, and other town officials, who will discuss the significance of this accomplishment and its impact on the West New York community.
Members of the press have been invited to attend and cover this remarkable event, which represents the culmination of extensive planning and development efforts. This ceremony symbolizes a new chapter for West New York, opening new opportunities for outdoor activities and community engagement.

As a resident and former employee of West New York who is now retired and dealing with many health complications, there is also a need to look into the handicap parking situation in this town. I have addressed this concern to all in town hall,the mayor’s office the courts the WNY parking authority the police and to no avail nothing is being done. Yes we need a beautiful stadium and beautiful parks for our children and residents to enjoy but people who are handicapped need to be addressed also. I’m told you need to wait years for a space and if your landlord doesn’t want a pole put in front of there building that you can ask a neighbor . This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. My husband is still waiting for years and now unfortunately he died to Covid last year and he never heard from anyone. He went to town hall and got the runaround. The man couldn’t walk and tried to live the best life he could before he died but always had to worry about finding a parking spot. Waiting sometimes hours in the early afternoon. I’ve experienced this myself, sleeping in my car one night cause there was no parking till 8am in the morning. This is life in WNY now. Something has to be done with parking for the handicapped. Please address this situation as soon as possible. I’m totally disgusted being a resident of this town for 49 years n my husband 72 years till his death last year.
This is one of the numerous upgrades in West New York that we can expect from Sires’s administration. Hopefully, the agenda includes an indoor center focusing on entertainment and cognitive enhancement activities that can address the needs of an aging population looking to be connected in a meaningful ways. The creation of a space equipped with domino tables, board games, and other activities coupled with programs scheduling friendly competitions among baby boomers for symbolic. prizes can go a long way keeping a growing sector of the community socially engaged while promoting mental health.
