It’s official! After a months-long renovation Miller Park in West New York is open to the public. After a weather-related cancellation on Friday July 21, West New York Mayor Albio Sires and other officials turned out on Saturday the 22nd to welcome residents, explaining some of the many features the park now offers.
Located on Jackson Street between 57th and 59th streets, Miller Park is the town’s largest. Its lengthy facelift began in September 2022 and the price tag wasn’t cheap. According to Sires it cost about $4.5 million.

But judging by the enthusiasm of those who turned out today it was money well spent.
In addition to providing young people with upgraded basketball courts and a mini-soccer field, the playground includes areas tailored for children with special needs. There are also features designed for seniors and security has been upgraded as well.
Those who turned out at today’s event also enjoyed music, hog dogs and my favorite– ice cream.

Sign in to commentA much needed addition to the town of West New York which like many urban communities has a great need to keep the youth occupied with constructive activities beneficial to their physical and cognitive development. The streets of West New York at present are not like they were 30 or 40 or 50 years ago when youngsters could spend their leisure time hanging out on a street corner on Bergenline by Schlesingers or anywhere else and engage in innocent social activities. The temptations and dangers have ticked up manifold on the streets just like in any overpopulated urban community. This entertainment and cultural center, which also addresses activities for Seniors is money well invested and potentially life saving for our youngsters and enriching for people of all ages.
