With the rising number of positive COVID cases across New Jersey and Hudson County, the Bayonne Board of Education is taking steps to be prepared in case the district needs to switch to virtual learning following the winter break.

Superintendent of School John Niesz has written a letter to parents dated December 22 suggesting, that while the district plans on opening as expected on January 3, students, faculty, administration, and staff should bring home all laptops and books over the Christmas break. “While we do not anticipate closing our schools for another COVID-19 shutdown we would rather be prepared for any type of emergency.”

Meanwhile in Hoboken, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Christine Johnson says students and staff have been given rapid tests to administer themselves on Sunday, January 2, the day before classes resume.  Anyone who tests positive, or is experiencing any symptoms, or who had close contact with anyone who tested positive, must stay home until their quarantine period ends.
