25 West New York youngsters spent the week learning all about police work and what it takes to become an officer. The Police Leadership Camp was inspired by Mayor Albio Sires, the Commissioner of Public Safety.
The camp had more girls than boys. When Hudson TV stopped by for visit, the youngsters, in grades five through eight, were at the headquarters of North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue learning how firefighters can extract a victim from a vehicle involved in a crash.

The campers told Hudson TV they are learning discipline and team work. They especially liked visiting Newark Liberty International Airport and witnessing the rescue capabilities of the Port Authority Police. They also enjoyed learning how to protect themselves from an attacker and how to escape a choke hold.
Members of the New Jersey National guard were on hand throughout the week helping instruct the campers.
A visit from a K-9 Unit was also on the agenda.
