19-Year-Old Hoboken Man Arrested in Union City Shooting Incident

The Hudson County Regional SWAT Unit, in coordination with the Union City Police Department and the Hoboken Police Department, arrested and charged a 19-year-old Hoboken man on charges related to a shooting incident that occurred on Third Street and Bergenline Avenue in Union City on August 26, 2020.

Terrence Torres, age 19, of Hoboken, was arrested at approximately 6 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2020, after officers with the Hudson County Regional SWAT Team executed a search warrant without incident at an apartment on Harrison Street in Hoboken. During the search, officers recovered a firearm.

Torres has been charged with Attempted Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1A(1) and 2C:11- 3A(1)(2), a first-degree crime; Possession of a Weapon (firearm) for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4A(1), a second-degree crime; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (firearm) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5B(1), a second-degree crime; Receiving Stolen

Property in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:20-7A, a third-degree crime; and Possession of a Defaced Firearm in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-9e, a fourth-degree crime.

On August 26, 2020, just before midnight, members of the Union City Police Department responded to reports of shots fired in the area Third Street and Bergenline Avenue.

Responding officers found shell casings at the scene as well as two cars that had been struck. A victim reported to officers that he was shot at while riding a bicycle in the area but was not injured.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Regional SWAT, the Union City Police Department, the Hoboken Police Department and the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and K-9 Unit, for the investigation and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
