It’s been two weeks since a cyclist was killed in a hit and run accident in Union City and the driver is still at large.  Hudson TV sent a text to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office on Monday to get an update on the investigation, but it was not answered.

The incident took place on Monday night, November 16 at approximately 7:45 at the corner of 48th Street and Bergenline Avenue, near the busy NJT Light Rail Station.  The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Union City Police Department are continuing to search for the driver of a white Nissan Rogue sport utility vehicle.

A police source familiar with the investigation told Hudson TV two weeks ago that the SUV had been recovered and the alleged driver interviewed.  That person, however, according to our source, claims not to have been behind the wheel when the hit and run occurred.  As of this morning, Hudson TV has not heard back from the Prosecutor’s Office for updated information, so we are under the assumption that the search for the driver is continuing.

The victim, 56-year old Marcelino Pilco of Union City was riding his bicycle northbound on Bergenline when he was struck by the Nissan.  The SUV left the scene heading eastbound on 48th Street according to Prosecutor Esther Suarez on Tuesday, November 17.  Pilco was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center, where he died of his injuries several hours later.
