A 4-alarm fire Wednesday morning in Union City has left between 36 and 38 people displaced. Acting North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue Chief Michael Falco told Hudson TV this morning that the 3-story, wood frame building at 3801 Park Avenue, at the corner of 38th Street, was demolished around 6 o’clock this morning.
The blaze was called in at 11:44 am. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the upper portion of the structure and the cockloft. The building was evacuated safely, with no injuries to any tenants. One firefighter suffered a minor injury to his right hand.
The structure’s roof was vented, but several collapses took place, which led the Building Department to deemed the structure uninhabitable.
Chief Falco told Hudson Tv the cause of the blaze is undetermined.
